Vår Energi member of OFFB

On 1 January 2026, Vår Energi became a member of OFFB. “We are very pleased to be able to include the country’s third-largest operating company in our member organisation. This membership strengthens emergency response cooperation on the Norwegian continental shelf,” says Ole Jacob Haug, Managing Director of OFFB.

Vår Energi produces 400,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and holds interests in 190 licenses and 42 fields in operation. As an operator, the company is responsible for operating the fields Gjøa, Duva, Balder and Ringhorne in the North Sea, Fenja in the Norwegian Sea, and Goliat in the Barents Sea.

In addition, Vår Energi is continuously carrying out a number of exploration and drilling operations from rigs located across the entire Norwegian continental shelf.

“Vår Energi is a large and important company with knowledge and experience that will make a strong contribution to the standardisation and further development of emergency preparedness cooperation, both within OFFB and on the Norwegian continental shelf,” says Ole Jacob Haug, Managing Director of OFFB.

“At the same time, OFFB has resources and expertise that will help strengthen Vår Energi in its incident management capabilities. We look forward to a long and successful collaboration,” Haug adds.

Vår Energi will retain its own 2nd line emergency response organisation, but will now have OFFB as an important partner across a wide range of emergency response services – including training and exercises, courses, a call center for next of kin, crisis communications, and the Operator’s Centre for Evacuees and Next of Kin (OSEP).

“The new agreement means that we now have standing emergency response at all our OSEP locations throughout the year. This will benefit all our members,” says Haug.

The Operator’s Association for Emergency Response (OFFB) is a user-driven, non-profit emergency response organisation operated by the companies A/S Norske Shell, Aker BP, DNO, Gassco, Harbour Energy, OKEA, Wellesley Petroleum, and now also Vår Energi.

Since its establishment in 2009, the OFFB Emergency Response Centre has provided professional 2nd line emergency response and support for strategic emergency management to its member companies and is an integrated part of their emergency response systems. In addition, OFFB serves as a resource and competence centre for all members.

Seadrill becomes member of OFFB

Seadrill has entered into a membership agreement with OFFB for its operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. This is the first time OFFB has admitted a rig company. “A natural and desired development in the emergency response collaboration,” says Managing Director Ole Jacob Haug.

Full focus on exercises

The 2026 exercise year is underway. OFFB has scheduled close to 30 training sessions and emergency response exercises for our members in the first three months of the year.

Over 100 personer øvd i praktisk trening fra nord til sør

For å være rustet ved hendelser må vi øve. Den siste tiden har mer enn 100 personer fra OFFBs medlemmer, hoteller og kommunale kriseteam øvd mottaksapparatet for evakuerte og pårørende i Stavanger, Bergen og Brønnøysund.

Ett år med Radio Medico som vaktlegeleverandør

Ekspertmiljøet ved Haukeland Universitetssjukehus i Bergen har fungert som vaktleger for sjøfarten i 100 år. Siden september 2024 har Radio Medico også gått vakt for OFFBs medlemmer i en sentralisert vaktlegeordning. – Samarbeidet øker kvaliteten på vaktlegeordningen for alle som jobber offshore, sier Ole Jacob Haug.

Knytter OFFB enda nærmere universitetsmiljøet

OFFB har i en årrekke hatt et tett samarbeid med samfunnssikkerhetsmiljøet ved Universitetet i Stavanger. Nå er vi så heldige å ha student Johannes Skjæveland Eide i praksisperiode her hos oss. – I OFFB får jeg en perfekt kombinasjon av «nerding» og operativ beredskap, mener han.

15 Years on duty for the Norwegian Continental Shelf

Ideen til Anita Utseth, Siri Nesbø, Randi Morvik og Eva Fagernes resulterte i et helt unikt beredskapssamarbeid på norsk sokkel. – Kredibilitet og engasjement, både blant myndigheter, universitetene og energibransjen generelt, viser at OFFB er en betydelig aktør. Digital Investigator – and new Chief of Staff at OFFB

Slightly over four months after joining OFFB, Yrjan Bamberg has successfully completed his certification exercise and is now part of the 2nd line duty rotation. “I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and am pleased to officially begin,” says the newly appointed Chief of Staff.
